Pros

+ Similar protection to sport boots, comfort of street boots

+ Unmatched ventilation

+ Comfortable to walk in

Cons

Not as protective as high cut boots

The Alpinestars SMX-1 R Vented boots are the most protective street-style motorcycle boots on the market. Although the boots aren’t as large as racing boots, it offers a comparable amount of protection for the areas that they do cover. Thankfully, there is no compromise in comfort. It is rare to find a pair of boots that I can comfortably walk around in. What is even more stunning is that I could wear these boots all day, with plenty of walking throughout, and they still felt comfortable.

There is no other boot on the market that matches the ventilation possible with the Alpinestars SMX-1 R boots. The air is channelled around the entire foot. This is complemented by the microperforated inner liner, which greatly increases breathability and prevents perspiration buildup.

Specs

Style: Touring

Material: Full grain leather

Ventilation: No

Waterproofing: Waterproof Liner

Certifications: CE Level 2

Lining: Waterproof internal liner

Closure System: Waterproof zipper | Velcro | Straps

Pros

+ Feels like they are broken in from the start

+ Very comfortable to walk around in

+ Incredible protective features

Cons

Not suitable for hot weather

When I first put on the TCX Fuel WP boots, I was immediately surprised. These boots don’t require to be broken in. Instead, TCX has built these boots with the initial wearing period in mind, so they feel comfortable from the moment you take them out of the box. Despite appearances, the TCX Fuel boots are so easy to walk in that my feet did not feel sore at the end of the day after a full day of visiting markets.

Protection is not compromised, with CE level 2 certification and proper ankle protection. The profile of the boot above the ankle protectors is slightly more narrow to keep them in place. As a result, there’s no rubbing or blistering happening in these shoes. The only downside is that they are not suitable for hot weather. However, the waterproofing solution is incredible.

3Alpinestars Web Gore Tex

Pros

+ Excellent build quality that will last for years

+ Keeps you dry in a monsoon, still breathable

+ Multi-purpose and highly protective

Cons

Too warm for summer

If you are looking for high-quality Goretex boots that will last 5+ years of regular riding, the Alpinestars Web Goretex boots are the best choice you can make. Thanks to the Goretex, they are incredibly breathable, plus the waterproofing is effective enough to keep you dry in the harshest of conditions. In addition, the Alpinestars Web Goretex boots are extremely versatile, can be used for many riding styles, and are incredibly protective. Unfortunately, they are not suitable for summer but considering they will last so long, it won’t be hard to get a lot of use out of them.

4Dainese York Air

Specs

Style: Urban

Material: Cowhide Suede

Ventilation: Yes | Perforations

Waterproofing: No

Certifications: CE Level 2

Lining: Mesh Liner

Pros

+ Highly visible reflective panels

+ The most protection you can get from a sneaker design

+ Highly breathable shoe

Cons

Limited coverage due to sneaker design

The Dainese York Air is CE Level 2 certified urban motorcycle boots with obvious reflective panels and full CE level 2 certification. There are no other motorcycle boots that pack this much protection into a sneaker design. As expected, they are quite easy and comfortable to walk around in and have incredible ventilation due to the panels extending all around the boot. The only downside is that the sneaker design doesn’t exactly give the rider the most coverage. Of course, this is unavoidable with a sneaker design, but it is important to keep this in mind when planning your purchase.

5Rev’it! Marshall WR

Pictured: Rev’it! Marshall WR (Top 5 Motorcycle Boots Of 2021)
Specs

Style: Street

Material: Full Grain Cowhide

Ventilation: No

Waterproofing: Yes | Water Repellent finish

Certifications: CE Level 1

Lining: Padded Mesh Lining

Closure System: Matching Colour Waxed Rounded Laces

Pros

+ Looks great

+ Good protection

+ Breaks in quickly

Cons

Uncomfortable to walk in

The Rev’it! Marshall, is a stylish pair of boots that features CE level 1 protection and thin enough soles for foot controls to be straightforward to operate. I didn’t need to wait long before the boot broke in. Once it did, though, I could operate the foot controls like it was an extension of my own body. The laces easily tie up and tuck into the shoe, so they keep away from moving parts and controls. The only downside to the boots is that they are not comfortable to walk in, so it is advisable to carry another pair for walking. Other than that, these boots look incredible, feel incredible when riding, and will last a long time.

Final Thoughts

The Alpinestars SMX-1 R Vented boots are an easy winner on the list. It is the most effectively ventilated and protective boots on the list and is second only to the TCX Fuel WP boots regarding comfort. The Fuel does run a close second for protection, though, and are the most comfortable boots on the list. Personally, I own both. When I don’t need ventilation, I use the TCX Fuel boots.

The Alpinestars Web Gore-Tex boots are trendy, will easily last more than 5 years of regular use, and is suited to most types of riders. Dainese has developed an excellent protective sneaker with the York Air boots, with an incredible amount of protection, regardless of the lack of coverage. Likewise, the Rev’it! Marshall WR boots offer good protection and excellent handling and are comfortable to ride in despite being uncomfortable to walk in.

Overall, these boots have great protection and give you good control of the bike. Although some have been designed for warmer climates due to ventilation, these boots are all top-tier and are some of the best on the market.
