Best Motorcycle Gear for Women

A common mistake for manufacturers when it comes to women’s protective equipment is to mirror the male design and paint it pink without accommodating the differences in body shape. Fortunately, most gear, like gloves and boots, is unisex and offered in both men’s and women’s sizing. However, there is a serious need for manufacturers to accommodate a broader group of riders for their jackets and pants. Despite the serious lack of options on the market, thankfully, there are some really great pieces of gear for female riders that are incredibly safe and conform to your body for the perfect fit. In this article, I’ve picked out the best motorcycle gear for women. From jackets to boots, these are some of the best gear on the market that is tailored for female riders.

Mixing mobility with durability, the Alpinestars SP-2 V2 is an efficient and well-ventilated set of gloves. The side of the glove incorporates a suede reinforcement, as it is classified as a critical area. It also has perforation panels strategically placed around the gloves. This, along with the vents in the knuckles, allows for great ventilation, making the SP2-V2 the perfect summer glove. The knuckles are also made of TPU, which is made to absorb and dissipate impact forces, further enhancing the safety of the gloves.

The accordion leather stretch inserts on the fingers and thumb allow you to easily and comfortably grip your handlebars. The interior of the gloves also has 3mm of foam padding at the fingers, making them even more comfortable. The double wrist closure system also lets you customise and adjust the fit of the gloves.

There are no compromises in the practicality of the SP-2 V2. The gloves feature touchscreen-compatible fingertips, meaning that you won’t need to take off your gloves when using a navigation device. It also has a finger bridge between the pinky and ring finger that protects your fingers in a low-slide crash.

An extremely high-performance pair of protective jeans, the Bull-It Fury 17 SP120 has a AAA rating for abrasion resistance. They also come with CE level 2 knee protection and pockets for optional hip protectors, which can be purchased separately. If you would like to learn more and protection, you check out our previous article here. They are comfortable, high-waisted, skinny stretch denim, with optimal coverage and comfort on and off the bike. Internally, the jeggings include a Covec thermal barrier, which is removable. This prevents heat transfer from road friction, further minimising the potential of injury.

The Bull-It Fury 17 jeggings include two front pockets and two back pockets, which is amazing to see on women’s apparel. The stretch denim also means that the jeans will conform perfectly to every body shape. In addition, these jeggings are extremely lightweight and designed for use in hot and cold climates. Alpinestars Stella SMX-1 R Women’s Boots

Waterproofing: N/A

Pros

+ High level of protection

+ Comfortable on and off the bike

+ Cool moisture wicking mesh liner

Cons

Limited color options

The Stella SMX-1 R boots feature the level of protection that you’d expect from racing boots but with a shorter and more comfortable cut. In most riding situations, this adds to safety, as it gives you maneuverability and freedom with operating your motorcycle. These boots are also comfortable off the bike, being rather easy to walk in, and stylish. Internally, they feature moisture-wicking mesh liner, also adding to comfort and breathability.

These boots feature a TPU toe slider, advanced microfibre construction and double density ankle protectors. The Stella SMX-1 R also has an incredibly sturdy sole and reinforced arch support, making these boots incredibly safe. In addition, there’s a velcro strap on the front of the boot and a full zip closure on the inner ankle, allowing you to slip these boots on with ease and adjust the fit. Not to mention, they are CE Level 2.

Unfortunately, there are only two designs to choose from, and I would have liked to see more variety. However, the designs aren’t outlandish, so they’ll be easy to match with your gear. Alpinestars tends to make their shoes slightly wider than most others. This means that some people may need to order a size smaller for a good fit.

Alpinestars Stella T-Jaws Air Women’s Textile Jacket

Liner: Removeable Thermal

Cons

Doesn’t Come With A Back Protector

Featuring a cut specifically designed for a woman’s shape, the Stella T-Jaws jacket comes with CE level 1 shoulder and elbow pads, with room for a CE level 2 Nucleon back protector. However, the back protector isn’t included. There is an internal waterproof pocket to keep your valuables, such as your phone safe and dry. There are also two internal and two external pockets, adding much utility to the jacket. Located on the sleeves are highly reflective graphics, which improve rider visibility in low-light conditions. The 450D Poly Fabric Shell with 600D reinforcement make this jacket extremely abrasion-resistant.

Stretch panels are located on the sleeves and upper chest, which greatly increases comfort and maneuverability. There is also stretch accordion above the elbows and behind the shoulders, making a big difference in your ability to move around and shoulder check. This jacket also features waist adjustment straps for greater security and customisation. All of these features make this jacket extremely comfortable and secure.

The Stella T-Jaws is suitable all year round, thanks to the extended mesh panels on the torso, upper chest, arms and rear back. This greatly increases airflow while you’re riding. You can undo the zippers to adjust the amount of wind channelling through the jacket. A removable thermal liner is included, which greatly increases comfortability for the colder months. Something important to note is that Alpinestars jackets tend to run a size small, so it is important to look at Alpinestars official sizing chart before purchasing.

Final Thoughts

Although most gear is unisex, it is essential to have a protective jacket and pants that fit your body shape properly. Not only does it ensure a comfortable ride, but it also ensures your safety on the road. Thankfully, most brands have dedicated women’s ranges, so you can find a jacket and pants that suit your riding style. Helmets are also unisex, so finding the best helmet to match all your new gear will be a piece of cake! But, if you do need help, I recommend reading this article on some of the best helmets on the market.

Whilst we did our best to pick the best motorcycle gear to suit all body shapes and sizes, there’s nothing better than heading to a shop to try the gear on. If that’s not an option for you, be sure to double-check the sizing chart you find online. EasyR and REV’IT have great return policies, so you can easily exchange sizes.
